# How is furthest point different from last point?

Topic: [Reporting and integrations](https://mindstamp.com/help/reporting) · Updated: 2026-09-25

## Short answer

Furthest point is the latest moment in the video that the viewer reached during the session. Last point is where the viewer was when the session ended. They are the same unless the viewer went back to an earlier moment before they left.

## An example

A viewer watches from 0:00 to 0:30 and then selects a link that ends the session. Furthest point and last point are both 0:30.

Another viewer watches from 0:00 to 0:30, selects a button that jumps back to 0:10, and then closes the browser. Furthest point is 0:30, because that is the latest moment they reached. Last point is 0:10, because that is where they were when the session ended.

## Which one to use

- Use **furthest point** to see how far into the content a viewer got, for example to find the section where most viewers stop.
- Use **last point** to see where a viewer left, and where they continue if you turn on resumed views.
- Use **watched percentage** for completion. It counts unique seconds played, so a viewer who skips ahead to the end reaches a late furthest point but a low watched percentage.

## Branches, jumps and resumed views

Change Time actions, chapters and navigation can move a viewer backward or forward, so the two points often differ in branching and menu-driven videos. When a viewer resumes a session, Mindstamp continues the same view record and updates both points.

Both values are in seconds in the API and in webhooks, as `furthest_point` and `last_point`. In a CSV export they are the **FURTHEST POINT** and **LAST POINT** columns.
