# How do I get a Mindstamp API token?

Topic: [API, MCP and AI agents](https://mindstamp.com/help/api-ai) · Updated: 2026-09-25

## Short answer

The organization owner creates API tokens in the app. Open **Integrations**, open the **Mindstamp API** card, enter a **Token name**, and select **Create token**. REST API access is on Pro, Scale, Ultra and Enterprise plans.

## Steps

1. Sign in as the organization owner. Other team members cannot manage tokens.
2. In the side menu, under Workspace, select **Integrations**.
3. Open the **Mindstamp API** card (Keys, webhooks & docs).
4. In **API tokens**, enter a **Token name** that says where you will use it, for example "reporting script".
5. Select **Create token**.
6. Select **Copy token** and save it in a password manager or your server's secret store. You cannot see it again.
7. Select **I saved my token**.
8. Test the token with the request below. A working token returns a JSON list of your videos.

## Test the token

Send the token as a bearer token. The REST API base address is https://api.mindstamp.com/api/v1. Replace YOUR_API_TOKEN with your token.

```
curl https://api.mindstamp.com/api/v1/videos \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_TOKEN"
```

## Rules for tokens

- An organization can have 5 active API tokens. Revoke one before you create another.
- Tokens do not expire. Select **Revoke** to stop a token at once. Apps and scripts that use it lose access immediately.
- A token can read, change and delete data across your organization. Do not put it in web pages, shared spreadsheets or source control.
- You cannot create tokens during the free trial or while the account is inactive. You can still revoke existing tokens.

## Plans

REST API access is on Pro, Scale, Ultra and Enterprise plans. On other plans, the card shows that token creation needs Pro or above. See [pricing](https://mindstamp.com/pricing).

## Documentation and other uses

- The API reference is at [docs.mindstamp.com](https://docs.mindstamp.com). A machine-readable OpenAPI document is at mindstamp.com/openapi.json.
- An API token also works as a bearer token for Mindstamp MCP, so an AI agent can use it. See [connect Claude or ChatGPT](https://mindstamp.com/help/connect-claude-or-chatgpt-with-mcp).
- To receive data as it happens instead of asking for it, use [webhooks](https://mindstamp.com/help/webhooks).
