# How can I add a YouTube subscribe button to my video?

## Short answer

Add a **Button** at the moment you ask viewers to subscribe, set its **Click Action** to **Open Link**, and paste your YouTube channel link with ?sub_confirmation=1 at the end. YouTube then asks the viewer to confirm the subscription. Mindstamp records every click on the button.

## Steps

1. Copy your channel link from YouTube, for example https://www.youtube.com/@yourchannel.
2. Add ?sub_confirmation=1 to the end, so the link reads https://www.youtube.com/@yourchannel?sub_confirmation=1.
3. In Mindstamp, select **Interactions**, move the playhead to the moment you ask viewers to subscribe, and click **Button**.
4. Type **Button text** such as “Subscribe on YouTube”.
5. Set the **Click Action** to **Open Link** and paste the link into **Website Link**.
6. Set **Show** and **Hide** so the button stays on screen long enough to read and click, then save.
7. Open the share link in a private browser window, click the button, and check that YouTube asks you to subscribe. Then find the click under **Reporting**.

## What the viewer sees

The video pauses and YouTube opens in a new tab. If the viewer is not signed in to YouTube, YouTube asks them to sign in first. When they come back to the video tab, they can press play to continue.

## Mindstamp tracks the click, not the subscription

Your Mindstamp reports show who clicked the button and when. YouTube Studio shows who actually subscribed. Compare the two to see how many clicks turn into subscribers.

## Use a hotspot or image instead

If your video already shows a subscribe graphic, place a [hotspot](https://mindstamp.com/help/how-to-use-clickable-hotspots-on-mindstamp) over it with the same **Open Link** action. You can also add a YouTube logo as a clickable [image](https://mindstamp.com/help/how-to-use-clickable-images-on-your-videos).

## The button works where you share the Mindstamp video

Mindstamp buttons live in the Mindstamp player. Share the video by its Mindstamp link or embed it on your site. If you upload the video file to YouTube, Instagram or TikTok, the buttons do not go with it. A video you already host on YouTube can be the source for a Mindstamp video, so you can add buttons without uploading it again.

A subscribe button inside YouTube’s own player can only come from YouTube’s tools, such as the video watermark in YouTube Studio.

## Subscribe buttons for other services

The same steps work for a newsletter, a podcast or a membership. Point **Open Link** to the signup page.
