# How do I change button colors?

Topic: [Design, branding and languages](https://mindstamp.com/help/design) · Updated: 2026-09-25

## Short answer

Set default button colors in **Design** > **Buttons**: **Text**, **Background** and **Border**. To change one button, select it and use **Colors** on its **Styling** tab. To recolor buttons you already made, apply the design to your videos with **Restore all interaction styles** selected.

## Steps

1. Open **Branding** in the side menu to change the account default, or open a video and select **Design** to change only that video.
2. In the **Buttons** section, set **Colors**: **Text**, **Background** and **Border**.
3. Set **Roundness** if you want square or rounded corners.
4. To change a single button, select it on the timeline, open **Styling**, and change **Colors**.
5. To recolor existing buttons, select **Apply to videos…**, choose the videos, select **Restore all interaction styles**, and confirm.
6. Preview the video and check each button over the frames behind it.

_On the Design page, set button and text colors and roundness for the account, or override them for one video._

## Which color wins

- A color set on one button wins over the Design default.
- A video design wins over its group design, and a group design wins over the account design.
- New buttons take the Design colors at the moment you add them. Later changes to Design do not recolor buttons that already exist, unless you apply the design to those videos.

## Apply to videos… is permanent

Applying a design replaces the design of the selected videos, except their thumbnails, and cannot be undone. If **Restore all interaction styles** is clear, only buttons whose colors still match the old design are updated. If it is selected, every interaction style on those videos is overwritten.

## Other colors that affect buttons

- **Accent Color** in the **Branding** section sets the player accent and the default hotspot color.
- Question buttons have their own colors in the **Questions** section.
- End Screen and overlay buttons have their own colors in the **Overlays** section.
- The background color picker accepts gradients. Text and border colors are solid.

## Contrast

A button sits on a moving picture. Use an opaque background and a border that stands out from both light and dark scenes, and keep strong contrast between the label and the button.
