# How do I show or hide the video player controls?

Topic: [Design, branding and languages](https://mindstamp.com/help/design) · Updated: 2026-09-25

## Short answer

Open the video, select **Design**, and go to the **Player** section. Turn on **Hide All Controls** to remove the control bar, or leave it off and choose each control one at a time: time, seekbar, seeking, markers, rewind, fast forward and speed.

## Steps

1. Open the video in the editor and select **Design** in the left menu.
2. Scroll to the **Player** section.
3. To remove the whole control bar, turn on **Hide All Controls**.
4. To keep the bar but remove some controls, leave **Hide All Controls** off and turn off the controls you do not want: **Show Time**, **Show Seekbar**, **Show Rewind**, **Show Fast Forward** or **Show Speed**.
5. If **Show Seekbar** is on, choose **Allow Seeking** (viewers can drag to a new time) and **Show Markers** (interaction points on the seekbar).
6. Watch the live preview on the Design page. Changes save automatically.
7. Open the share link in a private browser window and check the player with a mouse, a keyboard and a phone.

## What each control does

- **Hide All Controls**: removes the control bar. The other player switches are hidden while it is on.
- **Show Time**: shows the current time and the video length.
- **Show Seekbar**: shows the progress bar.
- **Allow Seeking**: lets viewers drag or click the seekbar to jump. Turn it off to show progress without letting viewers skip.
- **Show Markers**: shows where interactions appear on the seekbar.
- **Show Rewind** and **Show Fast Forward**: show the skip-back and skip-forward buttons.
- **Show Speed**: lets viewers change the playback speed.
- **Genie Button**: shows the Ask Genie button. It appears only when the video has a transcript.
- **Use Looping Preview**: plays a short muted loop before the viewer presses play. It is not available for YouTube videos.

## Where to set the default for all videos

Design works at three levels: your account, a group, and one video. To set the default for new videos, open **Branding** in the side menu and change the **Player** section there. A video follows the account (or group) design until you change a setting on that video.

To push one design to videos that already exist, use **Apply to videos…** at the top of the Design page. This replaces the design of the videos you select, except their thumbnails, and you cannot undo it.

## Related controls in other places

- **Autoplay (muted)**, **Loop** and **Allow fullscreen** are on the **Share** page, under **Playback**.
- **Prevent pausing** is in **Settings**, under **Playback**. It is available on Core and higher plans.
- **Prevent passing required interactions** is in **Settings**, under **Viewer experience**. Viewers cannot seek past must-click interactions or required questions until they complete them. It is available on Core and higher plans.

## Before you hide controls

If you hide all controls, viewers lose the usual way to pause, replay and see their progress. Give them another way to move forward, such as a button or a question, and test the video with a keyboard and on a touch screen.

For training, turning off **Allow Seeking** or using **Prevent passing required interactions** is usually a better choice than hiding every control.
