# How do I add a clickable image to my video?

Topic: [Interactions and logic](https://mindstamp.com/help/interactions) · Updated: 2026-09-25

## Short answer

Click **Image** in the interaction bar, then upload a file or pick one from your assets. Place and size it on the video, set its **Show** and **Hide** times, and choose a **Click Action**. A new image uses **Continue**, which only records the click, so change it if the image should do something.

## Steps

1. Select **Interactions** and move the playhead to where the image should appear.
2. Click **Image** in the interaction bar. The **Select image** window opens.
3. Upload a PNG, JPEG, GIF or WebP file, choose an image from your asset library, or paste a link to an image.
4. Drag the image into place on the video and resize it.
5. Under **Content**, type a **Caption**. Screen readers read it as the image’s text alternative.
6. Choose a **Click Action** and its value, then set **Show** and **Hide** under **Timing**.
7. Click **Save Image** and test the click in **Preview** and on a phone.

## When to use an image instead of a button

Use an image when the picture carries the meaning: a product, a logo, a thumbnail for the next video, or a diagram. Use a button when the viewer needs words to understand what happens. Both can use the same click actions.

## Captions and accessibility

The caption is the image’s text alternative. If you leave it empty, screen readers only hear “Image”. Turn on **Show Caption** under **Styling** to also print the caption on the video. Viewers can reach an image that has a click action with the keyboard.

## Settings that differ for images

- **Post Click State** offers **No Change**, **Hidden** and **Disabled**. **Change Colors** is not available for images.
- **Tooltip** and **Visibility** work the same as for buttons.
- To replace the picture, open the image and click **Change** under **Content**.

## Keep it clear of important content

Do not cover captions, faces, demonstrations or player controls. A PNG with a transparent background still has a rectangular click area, so test clicks near its edges.

## Show an image when a viewer clicks

To show a large diagram or map only when a viewer asks for it, add a button or hotspot and set its click action to **Show Image**. The video pauses while the image is open.
