# How do I add a clickable button to my video?

Topic: [Interactions and logic](https://mindstamp.com/help/interactions) · Updated: 2026-09-25

## Short answer

Move the playhead to the right moment, click **Button** in the interaction bar, type the button text, set its **Show** and **Hide** times, and pick a **Click Action**. A button can open a link, jump to another time, switch to another video, show a message, and more.

## Steps

1. Open the video and select **Interactions** in the video menu.
2. Move the playhead to the moment the button should appear, then click **Button** in the interaction bar. The new button starts at the playhead and shows for 10 seconds.
3. Under **Content**, type the **Button text**. Name the result, such as “See pricing” or “Book a call”.
4. Choose a **Click Action** and fill in its value, for example a **Website Link** for **Open Link**.
5. Under **Timing**, adjust **Show** and **Hide**. Hover a time field to see quick controls, including **Start** and **End**.
6. Drag the button on the video to place it, and drag its edges to resize it. Change its colors, font size and roundness under **Styling**.
7. Click **Save Button**, then click **Preview** and click the button to test it.

_Open the Click Action list and choose what a click does. Open Link sends the viewer to a web page._

## What a button can do

Each button has one **Click Action**. A new button starts with **Continue**, which records the click and keeps the video playing. Use **Open Link** for a page outside the video, **Change Time** for a jump inside the same video, **Switch Video** for a branch, and **Show Message** for a short note. See [all click actions](https://mindstamp.com/help/click-actions) for the full list.

## Pause the video or require the click

The **Pause** setting under **Timing** controls what the video does while the button is on screen.

- **None**: the video keeps playing.
- **At show time**: the video pauses when the button appears. Set **Pause Length** to **Until Interaction** to wait for a click, or to a time from 5 to 60 seconds.
- **At hide time (Require Click)**: if the viewer has not clicked the button by its hide time, the video pauses there and waits for the click.

## Other settings

- **Post Click State** hides the button, disables it, or changes its colors after a click.
- **Capture Lead** asks for the viewer’s details before the click action runs.
- **Tooltip** shows short text when a viewer points at the button.
- **Visibility** shows the button on **All Devices**, **Desktop Only** or **Mobile Only**.
- **Variables & Logic** can set a variable on click (Core and higher plans) or show the button only to some viewers (Pro and higher plans).

## Write text that names the result

Avoid “Click here” or “Submit”. Text such as “Download the checklist” tells viewers what happens, helps people who use screen readers, and makes your click reports easier to read.

## Test it before you share

When you play the video as its owner, Mindstamp does not record normal viewer data and skips some actions, such as redirects. To check the full result, open the share link in a private browser window, click the button, then find the click under **Reporting**.
