# How does the HubSpot integration work?

Topic: [Reporting and integrations](https://mindstamp.com/help/reporting) · Updated: 2026-09-25

## Short answer

Connect HubSpot once in **Integrations**, then choose on each video what to send: **Send Views**, **Send Interaction Events** and **Add/Remove from Lists**. Mindstamp creates or updates the contact by email and adds the view and the selected answers to the contact timeline. HubSpot is on Pro and higher plans.

## Steps

1. Open **Integrations** in the left menu, select **HubSpot** and connect your HubSpot account.
2. Open the video, select **Integrations** > **HubSpot**.
3. Under **Send to HubSpot**, turn on **Send Views** to create or update the contact and add a view event.
4. Turn on **Send Interaction Events**, then use **Select Interactions to Send** to choose the questions and buttons to add to the timeline.
5. To change lists, turn on **Add/Remove from Lists** and pick lists under **Add to Lists** and **Remove from Lists**.
6. To write an answer into a contact property, open the question, set its **HubSpot Field**, and save.
7. Make sure the video collects an email. HubSpot needs one to find the contact.

## What is sent

- **Contact**: email, first name, last name and phone. Any variable whose name matches a HubSpot contact property is also written.
- **View event**: video title, start and finish time, watched percentage, participation, correctness, interaction count and engagement time.
- **Answer event**: the question, the choices, the viewer’s answer, the correct answer, whether it was correct, and the time in the video.
- **Click event**: the interaction, what was clicked, the click action and its result.
- **Property mapping**: the answer, or a fixed **HubSpot Value** for a button, written to the chosen property.
- **Lists**: the contact is added to or removed from the lists you chose.

## When it is sent

Mindstamp sends to HubSpot after the session is finished: the viewer reaches the end, closes the page, or stops for about two minutes. If HubSpot rejects a request or is busy, Mindstamp tries again over the next few hours. Failed syncs show in **Integrations** > **HubSpot**, with an option to retry them.

## Common problems

- No email: an anonymous viewer cannot become a HubSpot contact. Add an email field to lead capture, or pass `?email=` in the link.
- A property does not update: select **Refresh Data** after you add a property in HubSpot, and check that the value matches the property type.
- Nothing arrives: check that the video toggles are on. Connecting the account alone does not send data.
