# Why won’t my Switch Video action change the video?

Topic: [Interactions and logic](https://mindstamp.com/help/interactions) · Updated: 2026-09-25

## Short answer

A **Switch Video** action works only when the destination video exists, is published, and the viewer is allowed to watch it. When a switch fails, the player keeps playing the current video. Older versions of the player showed the message “Could not change video”. Select the destination again, publish it, and test the path in **Preview**.

## Steps

1. Open the interaction, navigation, or **End Screen** that switches video. Check that the destination under **Select Video** is the video you expect.
2. Open the destination video and publish it. Mindstamp lists unpublished destinations under **Unpublished Video Branches**.
3. Open the destination’s share link in a private browser window. If it does not play there, fix the destination first.
4. Check the destination’s access settings, such as a password or an access list. A viewer who cannot open the destination directly cannot reach it through a branch.
5. If you deleted the destination or replaced it with a new video, select the new destination and save.
6. Click **Preview** and follow the path from the start of the first video.

_Set Click Action to Switch Video, choose the destination video, and set where it starts._

## Find where the problem is

If the destination does not play on its own, the branch is not the cause. See [Why am I getting a playback error?](https://mindstamp.com/help/im-getting-a-playback-error-why).

If the destination plays on its own but not from the branch, the problem is in the action. Delete the action, add it again, and select the destination from the list.

## Test outside the editor

In the editor, an automatic switch shows **Automatic Branching Choice** so that you can stay on the video you are editing. This is expected. Use **Preview** or the share link to see what a viewer sees.

## What to send support

If the switch still fails, contact support with these details:

- The share link of the video that holds the switch.
- The title of the destination video.
- The interaction or navigation that switches, and its time in the video.
- The browser and device, and whether the video was embedded or opened from a share link.
- The time you tested and what happened on screen.
