# How does the Shopify integration work?

## Short answer

Shopify is a custom connection that Mindstamp sets up for each store. It is not self-serve in the app. [Contact us](https://mindstamp.com/contact) to get started. After your store is connected, give a button, image, hotspot or text the **Add to Cart** click action, and viewers add products to an in-video cart and go to your Shopify checkout.

## Steps

1. [Contact Mindstamp](https://mindstamp.com/contact) with your store address (it ends in myshopify.com) and the videos you want to make shoppable.
2. Mindstamp sets up the connection for your store and confirms when it is ready. The setup is quoted per account.
3. Open the video and add a button, image, hotspot or text interaction. Choose the **Add to Cart** click action.
4. Choose the product and the variant, or let the viewer choose the variant.
5. Choose **Add to cart** to build a cart, or **Buy now** to send the viewer straight to checkout with that one product.
6. Preview the video, add a product, open the cart and select **Checkout** to test.

## What the viewer sees

With **Add to cart**, the video pauses and a cart opens with the product. The viewer can change quantities, keep watching or go to checkout. With **Buy now**, checkout opens in a new window.

The cart link is also stored in the `{{checkout_url}}` variable, so you can use it on another button or in the end screen.

## Tracking sales

Carts made in Mindstamp carry the attributes Mindstamp Video, Mindstamp Play ID and Mindstamp Interaction ID, so you can see in Shopify which video and which interaction started the order. Add to Cart clicks also show in **Reporting** > **Interactions**.

## Without a Shopify connection

Any button or hotspot can use the **Open Link** click action to send viewers to a Shopify product or cart page. This works on every plan and needs no setup, but it has no in-video cart.
