# Can I change the color and look of a hotspot?

## Short answer

Yes. A new hotspot takes its color from **Accent Color** in the video’s **Design**, under **Branding**. To change one hotspot, open it and set **Color** under **Styling**. You can also change its indicator ring, shape, icon, hover background and effect there.

## Steps

1. Select **Interactions** and open the hotspot you want to change.
2. Open **Styling** and click the **Color** swatch. Pick a color that you can see on both light and dark frames.
3. Use **Show Indicator**, **Indicator Width**, **Alignment** and **Icon** to control the ring viewers see.
4. Choose a **Shape**, **Circle** or **Square**, and turn **Hover Background** on or off.
5. Click **Effect** to add a motion effect such as **Pulse**, **Glow** or **Tap**.
6. Save the hotspot and check it in **Preview** on a phone and on a desktop.

## Where the default color comes from

Mindstamp copies **Accent Color** from **Design** > **Branding** into each hotspot when you create it. If you change the accent color later, the hotspots you already made keep their old color. Change those hotspots one at a time, or select several with **Bulk Edit** and change them together.

When you import a design into a video, you can select **Overwrite all custom styles**. This resets the existing interactions in that video to the imported design.

## What each control does

- **Color**: the color of the ring and of the hover background.
- **Show Indicator**: shows or hides the ring. When it is off, the ring controls below it are not available.
- **Indicator Width**: the size of the ring, as a percentage of the hotspot’s width.
- **Alignment**: puts the ring on the left, in the center, or on the right of the hotspot.
- **Icon**: adds an icon inside the ring.
- **Hover Background**: tints the hotspot when a viewer points at it.
- **Effect**: **Pulse**, **Glow**, **Beam**, **Shimmer**, **Focus**, **Sparkle** or **Tap**. Effects are on Core and higher plans.
- **Show Caption**: prints the hotspot’s caption on the video.

## Make it easy to see

A hotspot with no ring works when the object clearly invites a click, such as a product on a table. For a training step, a branch, or any click the viewer must make, keep the ring on and add an effect, so viewers do not have to search the frame.

## Change it after a click

**Post Click State** under **Settings** can hide the hotspot, disable it, or give it new colors after the viewer clicks it. This shows viewers which items they already found. See [post-click states](https://mindstamp.com/help/post-click-states-hidden-vs-disabled).
