Why can’t my video go fullscreen?

Updated · 2 min read

Short answer

On iPhone, Apple allows only a plain video to go fullscreen, not a player with interactions on top of it. Fullscreen would remove your buttons, questions and hotspots, so the Mindstamp player hides the fullscreen button on iPhone and some iPads. On other devices, fullscreen usually fails because the embed code does not allow it.

  1. Open the share link on a computer. If fullscreen works there, the video is set up correctly.
  2. If fullscreen fails only on your web page, copy the embed code again from Share. It includes the fullscreen permission (allow="fullscreen" and allowfullscreen).
  3. If your website builder removes iframe attributes, add them back, or use its own embed or HTML block.
  4. If the video is inside another iframe, such as an LMS page, every iframe around it must also allow fullscreen.
  5. On iPhone, turn the phone to landscape, or open the share link so the player fills the browser.

This is an iOS limit, not a Mindstamp setting. It applies to every interactive video player, because iOS fullscreen shows only the video element. Mindstamp keeps viewers in the browser so the interactions stay visible and tracked.

Design with this in mind: use large buttons and text, and test on an iPhone before you publish. See publish and check on mobile.

A browser lets an iframe go fullscreen only when the page allows it. If the fullscreen button does nothing, or is missing, check the embed code and any security settings on your page that limit iframes.

Inside a mobile app, the app’s web view controls fullscreen. See use in mobile apps.

  • A video clip that plays inside your video does not have its own fullscreen button.
  • If you hide the player controls, viewers cannot see the fullscreen button. See player controls.
