How do I add a Mindstamp video to Blackboard Learn?

Updated · 3 min read

Short answer

Download a Mindstamp SCORM package and add it to the Ultra course as a SCORM package, then choose the grade schema. To show the player in a Document instead, an admin must first enable an alternate domain. Then select Add HTML in the Document and paste the Basic iframe code.

  1. In Mindstamp, publish the video from its Share page if it is not published yet.
  2. Under Export, select Download SCORM package. This needs a Core plan or higher.
  3. Choose SCORM 1.2 or a SCORM 2004 edition and a Completion Checkpoint of 10, 25, 50, 75, 90, 95 or 100 percent, then download the ZIP file.
  4. In the Blackboard Learn Ultra course, add the ZIP file as a SCORM package. Do not unzip it.
  5. Choose the grade schema before you save. You cannot change it or the maximum score later.
  6. Open the package as a test student, watch past the checkpoint, and check the gradebook.
  • Score records the Mindstamp score: the percent of questions answered correctly, with the first answer counting.
  • Completion records that the student reached the checkpoint you chose in Mindstamp.
  • Satisfaction is a poor fit for SCORM 2004, because a SCORM 2004 package reports passed at the checkpoint, whatever the score.
  • Blackboard counts the last graded attempt.

Embed in a Document after the alternate domain

  • An admin enables an alternate domain for your Blackboard site. Without it, the Add HTML block does not appear.
  • In Mindstamp, copy the Basic iframe code. Blackboard documents custom HTML and CSS in the block, and this code needs no script.
  • In the Ultra course, open a Document, select Add HTML to add a new block, paste the code, and save.
  • Blackboard loads the saved HTML from the alternate domain in its own iframe. It does not document whether fullscreen works there, so try fullscreen as a test student.
Copy link to Why Insert Media and Web Link do not show the player

The Ultra content editor has no source code view, and Insert Media accepts addresses only from its provider list, which does not include Mindstamp. A Web Link opens in a new window by default. Blackboard says the course panel view is for content on Blackboard or your institution’s website, and students can see a warning banner when parts of a page do not show.

If your course uses the Original course view

Institution guides show that an Item from Build Content in the Original course view has an HTML source view that accepts iframes. Paste the Basic iframe code there and check the item as a test student.

If your account restricts embed domains

If you set Allowed embed domains in Mindstamp, add your Blackboard domain and the alternate domain to the list. Otherwise students see “Video not available: Code 617”. See restrict embed domains.

The embed does not receive the student’s Blackboard account. To see names in Mindstamp reports, add lead capture to the video so students enter their name and email. A SCORM package passes the name and ID from the LMS instead. See viewer identity and anonymous viewers.
