How do I embed a Mindstamp video in Moodle?

Updated · 2 min read

Short answer

Publish the Mindstamp video and copy its Basic iframe code. In Moodle, add a Page resource or edit a Text and media area, open the editor’s HTML view, paste the code, and save. For a grade in the gradebook, add a SCORM package activity instead.

  1. In Mindstamp, publish the video from its Share page if it is not published yet.
  2. Under Embed, choose Basic iframe and select Copy embed code.
  3. In the Moodle course, turn editing on.
  4. Add a Page resource, or edit a Text and media area, a Book chapter, or a Lesson page.
  5. In the editor, open the HTML view and paste the code. Save the page.
  6. Open the page as a test student. Play the video, use each interaction, and try fullscreen.

Where Moodle allows iframes

Moodle removes iframe code in activities that all class members can write in, such as Forum, Wiki, Glossary, Database, Blog, and Assignment submissions. The video shows in the editor, but Moodle strips it when the post saves. Use teacher content: a Page, a Text and media area, a Book, or a Lesson.

Keep fullscreen in the code

Moodle does not add fullscreen permission to an iframe. The Mindstamp code includes allowfullscreen and allow="autoplay; fullscreen". If the editor removes them, add them again. See why a video cannot go fullscreen.

Add a SCORM activity for a grade

  • On the Mindstamp Share page, under Export, select Download SCORM package. This needs a Core plan or higher.
  • Choose SCORM 1.2, because Moodle supports SCORM 2004 sequencing only in part.
  • Choose a Completion Checkpoint of 10, 25, 50, 75, 90, 95 or 100 percent.
  • In Moodle, add a SCORM package activity, upload the ZIP file, and set the grading method.
  • Run the activity as a test student and check the gradebook.

The Moodle app shows Page content in a web view, where autoplay and fullscreen rules can differ from a desktop browser. Open the course in the app before launch.

If your account restricts embed domains

If you set Allowed embed domains in Mindstamp, add your Moodle site domain to the list. Otherwise students see “Video not available: Code 617”. See restrict embed domains.

Know which student watched

The embed does not receive the student’s Moodle account. To see names in Mindstamp reports, add lead capture to the video so students enter their name and email. A SCORM package passes the name and ID from the LMS instead. See viewer identity and anonymous viewers.
