How do I test an integration from start to finish?

Updated · 2 min read

Short answer

Set up the integration on one video, watch that video once as an identified test viewer in a private window, finish the session, and check the result in the destination. GA4 progress shows in DebugView within seconds. HubSpot and webhooks arrive after the session is finished.

  1. Pick one published video that has a question and a button.
  2. Set up the integration. For GA4, save the Google Analytics ID. For HubSpot, turn on Send Views and Send Interaction Events and select the question. For a webhook, turn on Send View Webhooks and enter your endpoint.
  3. Build a test link with an identity, for example the share link plus `?email=test%2B1%40yourcompany.com&name=Test%20Viewer`. Encode special characters.
  4. Open the link in a private browser window. Do not use the editor preview; it does not send data.
  5. Play past 50 percent, answer the question and select the button.
  6. Close the tab, or wait about two minutes without activity, so the session is finished.
  7. Check the destination, using the expected results below.
  • GA4: in DebugView or Realtime, `mindstamp_video_progress` events with `progress_percent` 10, 25 and 50, and `Reached 10%` to `Reached 50%`. These arrive during playback.
  • HubSpot: a contact for the test email, a view event on its timeline with the watched percentage and scores, and an answer event for the selected question.
  • Webhook: one POST to your endpoint with `viewer_email` set to the test email, `percentage` about 50, the answer in `responses`, and the headers `X-KEY` and `X-Mindstamp-Signature`.
  • Mindstamp: the view in Reporting > Views with the same email and answer.
  • Check the ID starts with G- and belongs to the property you are looking at.
  • Check the video, its group or the account has the ID. A video uses its own ID first.
  • Turn off ad and tracking blockers for the test.
  • Play past a milestone. The first event is at 10 percent.

  • Check the view is in Reporting > Views. If it is not there, the session did not record.
  • Wait two minutes after the last activity. Data is sent only after the session is finished.
  • Check the per-video toggles. A connected account or a default URL alone sends nothing.
  • HubSpot needs an email. Check that the view shows the test email.
  • Open Integrations > HubSpot for failed syncs and select retry.
  • Webhooks must return 200 or 204 within 15 seconds. Check your endpoint logs for the status you returned.
  • Lead webhooks send once for each viewer. Use a new test email for each run.

Send the video link, the time of the test view, the test email, the integration and what you saw in the destination. Include the response status from your endpoint for webhooks.
